Learn to Dance with Mr. Francisty

The Elements of Dance: Dance Concept/ Movement Conpects

We are going to dive into our dance unit together, first learning the concepts that make up dance and from there we will be learning different dances.

I will show you how to do the concepts, you can follow along with me or you can to try it for yourself after the lesson to your own music!

The first concept in regard to Space (Where is the movement performed)  is Place.

We will focus in this lesson about Place: self-space/general space (also called personal/shared)

Try to follow along in the video.

Our last lesson we learns about Space: Personal space vs Shared space. Next we are learning and practicing Levels.

Today we will still be practicing our Personal and Shared space but also introduce the concept of Levels. The three levels we will be practicing and trying are: High, Medium and Low.

Follow along with Mr. F or watch the lesson followed by trying the concept for yourself.

Dance Concepts:Direction

Cha Cha Slide

Direction is moving forward, back, left, right, up, down, diagonal.

Do your best to follow along, or watch the video and do the dance after on your own. Remember practice makes perfect, it took Mr.F five tries before learning the dance. Don't worry if you mess up, just have fun.

Dance Concept: Pathways

Building on direction we are going to look at different pathways that we can do when dancing or moving our bodies in different directions.

Some Pathways are: straight, zig zag, curved.

Dance Concept: Size

Hey Thunderbird's, today we are going to learn about size (big, medium, and small) and practice with a song called baby shark!

Dance Concept: Speed

Today we are breaking down the concept of speed. Moving fast or slow. When the music is fast we usually move our bodies fast, when the music is slow we slow down our bodies. We will be moving together listening to the speed of the music and trying to match that speed with our bodies.

Dance Concept Rhythm: Pattern, Beat

Today we are leaning to line dance!

What you need to remember for today's dance in counting to 8. Our pattern is the 8 count and we will try and stay with the beat of the song.

Today's song is Old Town Road.

Dance Concept: Body Hand Washing

Hey Thunderbird's! Last week we learned how to line dance by learning the Pattern. Today we are learning that we can dance with specific body parts. Maybe just the arms or a leg.

For today's exercise I want you to dance with your hands. We are going to do a hand wash dance video! Ill show you what I mean in my video.

Remember wash for at least 20 seconds, use some soap and washer.

Have fun!

Body Break: Circuit

Let's take a break from dance and do a fun fully body workout.

10 jumping jack, 10 burpees, 10 lunges. Take a break,

and try again. This is a great way to get the heart pumping, lungs working and muscles going.

Body Break: Part 2 Time Challenge

Lets challenge our bodies! Today lets to 2 timed challenges.

For the first one see how long you can do a wall sit.

For the second one see how long you can do a plank.

Remember you are competing with yourself, seeing how long you can hold. Keep trying until those seconds creep up.
